"Nothing is more powerful than an idea whose time has come"
Victor Hugo
Bitcoin is a very rare phenomenon – it’s such a powerful transformative idea that manifests itself in so many ways. It’s a technology, it’s money, it’s an ideology, it’s a vision for the future…..and ultimately it’s hope for humanity.
However, for much of the world it’s still an abstract thing, either perceived as not relevant to them or even something worse.
There are many misguided perceptions about bitcoin, but we - as a ‘bitcoin community’ – have not always done the best job at showing why this rare phenomenon is relevant to EVERYONE, especially those who genuinely care about the direction the world is going in.
It seems most people think the world is headed in a bad direction and wish things could be better…..whether that be a fairer system with less corruption, greed and wealth inequality, a freer society with less oppression, or just a less divided world with less anger.
What many people fail to understand is that bitcoin can - and will - influence all of these things, because it will reengineer and recalibrate the entire way humans exist and interact.
"Truly inspiring individuals that were trying desperately to bring about change"
When I (Producer) came to El Salvador shortly after the announcement that bitcoin would be adopted by the government as legal tender, I came to the village of El Zonte to get to the source of where it all began.
"A country ravaged by war, impoverished, corrupt and deeply violent…. and yet here was a group of people led by the main Bitcoin Beach leaders..."
I discovered a wonderful community with some truly inspiring individuals that were trying desperately to bring about change. El Salvador has been on one of the toughest places on earth to live for many decades. A country ravaged by war, impoverished, corrupt and deeply violent….and yet here was a group of people led by the main Bitcoin Beach leaders, Jorge Valenzuela, Roman Centeno, Hirvin Palma and Mike Peterson, finally providing some real hope and opportunity.
Driven by compassion, empathy and love, their efforts to bring change began without bitcoin, but when bitcoin came into their lives, they were drawn to it like a magnet. They realised that this was the tool that could really transform their village and perhaps their country.
A fascinating story, and an opportunity to show people that ultimately bitcoin is about improving the lives of human beings. It brings hope and optimism in a world that’s so desperately devoid of that for so many people.
Just as Jorge and Roman’s original dreams of bringing change to their village and their country are actually coming true….it reminds us that we should all ‘dare to dream’.
